The Asia Cup 2023 is two weeks away. Pakistan and Nepal have announced the squad, while India are the only team left to release their players’ list from Group A. Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be a part of the squad, but eyes are on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who are in their final stages of rehabilitation, and are expected to make the final cut.
Meanwhile, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has spoken against including KL Rahul in the playing XI as he feels that it would be too much to ask from the 31-year-old, who has not played a solitary game since he got injured in the IPL.
“See, when a player who has not played a single game and is recovering from injury, to think of him in the playing XI of the Asia Cup, you are asking too much from the player.”
“Additionally, Rahul is a keeper. Coming from an injury and those range of movements, that is a no-no.”
Notably, Rahul injured his thigh on May 1 during LSG’s game against RCB. Following the injury, the right-hand batter underwent surgery and even missed the IPL. He was recently seen practising his keeping at the NCA and also batting in the nets.
