Gary Kirsten was appointed Pakistan’s head coach before the T20I series against England. His first series ended in disappointment as the Men in Green lost by a margin of 0-2. He would have considered seeing a better performance from the players in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, but there was a surprise for the renowned coach and legendary cricketer.
The United States of America defeated Pakistan in the Super Over to hand Kirsten the most painful loss of his coaching career. He looked angry in the dugout during the USA vs. PAK game and was even seen furiously signaling to one of the players during the home team’s chase.
His all direction met the deaf ears as the players dropped catches and conceded extra runs. There was no commitment in the batting and bowling departments.
Gary, who led India to the 2011 ODI World Cup title as a coach, couldn’t believe what he saw from the Pakistan players regarding performance. Former India players Irfan Pathan and Sanjay Manjrekar felt bad for Kirsten.
“This is Pakistan cricket. Gary Kirsten will soon learn the difference between coaching India and Pakistan. He will encounter such problems during his tenure with Pakistan,’ Irfan Pathan said.
‘I feel bad for Kirsten. He coached the Indian team during the 2011 World Cup winning campaign, and here he has a Pakistan team that doesn’t want to improve. This is painful for him,” he said.
