David Warner, who scored more than 280 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup, went on to bag the player of the tournament award. He was the second-highest run-getter in the tournament. Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar was not happy with the choice as he wanted Babar Azam to take the award home.
The Pakistan skipper scored 303 runs in six games with the help of four half-centuries. “Was really looking forward to seeing @babarazam258 becoming Man of the Tournament. Unfair decision for sure,” Akhtar had tweeted earlier.
Reacting to Shoaib’s statement, Irfan Pathan said that a player performing is one thing but putting team over the individual performance is a different thing. Pathan’s comments came in reference to the strike rate of Babar Azam in the tournament. While Babar scored his runs at a strike rate of 126.25, Warner was striking at 146.70, which helped Australia.
“A Player performing is one thing, putting himself above the team is another. Don’t mix the two. TEAM always, always comes first,” tweeted Irfan Pathan.
