Major records that can be broken in Asia Cup 2023

The 2023 Asia Cup will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the ODI format, with the ICC Cricket World Cup just more than a month away. The series will be seen as a dress rehearsal ahead of the coveted event in India. The likes of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will want to bring their best cricket forward and also address several aspects of their respective squads, which will almost be the final bunch for the World Cup. India have won seven Asia Cups to date, including the 20-over format. Sri Lanka are one behind with six honors. Pakistan, India, and Nepal are pitted in Group A in the Asia Cup 2023. Whereas Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are in Group B. Plenty of major individual records are on offer, with several big guns keen to impress across nations. Here, we present the major records that can be broken.

Kohli can get to 13000 ODI runs

Senior Indian batter Virat Kohli has scored 12898 runs at an average of 57.32. He is 102 runs short of the 13000-run mark. Kohli, who recently smashed his 29th century in the longest format, is in line to become the fifth player in ODI cricket with 13000-plus runs. He can join the likes of Sachin Tendulkar (18426), Kumar Sangakkara (14234), Ricky Ponting (13734), and Sanath Jayasuriya (13430).

Fastest to 13000 ODI runs

Kohli is set to become the fastest to 13000 ODI runs. Sachin holds the record at the moment in terms of innings (321). Kohli has so far featured in just 265 ODI innings.

10000 runs in store for Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has scored 9837 runs in ODIs at an average of 48.69. Rohit is 163 runs shy of the 10000-run mark. He will become just the 15th player to achieve the milestone. Rohit is also on the verge of becoming the sixth Indian to register 10,000 ODI runs. Rohit has a terrific record against WI, scoring 1601 ODI runs at 57.17. He comes to the series on the back of three successive fifty-plus scores.

Imam-ul-Haq can become the second-fastest to 3000 ODI runs

In-form Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq has amassed 2871 runs in ODIs and is nearing the 3000-run mark. He has an ODI to play versus Afghanistan in the ongoing three-match series. He can become the second-fastest to 3000 ODI runs, having played in 61 innings to date. Former South Africa star Hashim Amla holds the record, having got to 3000 runs in 61 innings.

6000 runs for Angelo Mathews

Veteran Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews has scored 5865 runs in ODI cricket at 41.01. He is just 135 shy of the 6000-run mark. Mathews can become the ninth SL player to achieve the landmark.

Rohit is aiming for this unique Asia Cup record (ODIs)

Rohit has scored 745 runs in the Asia Cup (ODIs) at 46.56. He is 255 runs shy of the 1000-run mark. Rohit can become the first Indian player to achieve this landmark. He can also surpass Sachin Tendulkar in terms of most runs by an Indian (971). Rohit can become the third player in Asia Cup history (ODIs) to slam 1000-plus runs after Jayasuriya and Sangakkara.

Shakib is aiming to notch 4000 ODI runs away from home

Bangladesh all-rounder and skipper Shakib Al Hasan is on the verge of completing 4,000 ODI runs away from home (neutral and home of opposition venues). So far, the classical southpaw has accumulated 3832 runs at 39.50. He can become just the second Bangladesh player to achieve this mark after Tamim Iqbal (4323).

Shakib can script this major record with the ball

Shakib has claimed 305 ODI scalps at 28.98. He is tied with former New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori. Shakib needs one scalp to steer clear of Vettori and become the second-highest wicket-taker among left-arm spinners in ODIs after Jayasuriya.

200 ODI scalps for Jadeja

Ravindran Jadeja has 194 ODI wickets at 37.27. He is six shy of 200. He can also surpass Steve Waugh (195), Dale Steyn (196), and Dwayne Bravo (199).
