Harbhajan Talks Bumrah's Impact on India's Success in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh praised Jasprit Bumrah’s outstanding performance in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, where Bumrah was the top wicket-taker with 32 wickets at an impressive average of 12.64.

Harbhajan highlighted Bumrah’s crucial role, noting that India’s loss in the series could have been even more significant without him.

He remarked, “If Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t in this tour, the series would have ended 5-0. Jassi saved India in Perth. After Adelaide, he saved India in the rest of the matches.”

Harbhajan also criticized the team’s selection approach for the Sydney Test, especially the decision to play two spinners on a pitch that favored seamers. This decision became even more controversial after Bumrah sustained back spasms, which limited his ability to bowl.

He questioned, “How was selection done? Was there any point in playing two spinners in Sydney on this pitch where they didn’t even bowl?”

Bumrah’s key performances were a major factor in India’s success throughout the series, particularly in the first Test in Perth, where his contributions were vital to India’s win. His consistent excellence earned him the Player of the Series award, solidifying his reputation as a crucial part of India’s bowling lineup.
