Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, marking the end of a significant era in Indian cricket. In a heartfelt message on social media, Rohit reflected on his decade-long journey in the whites, calling it the most “challenging yet fulfilling” phase of his career. He thanked his teammates, coaches, and fans for their unwavering support throughout his Test career, saying, “Every time I walked out to bat in whites, I felt pride, responsibility, and a deep connection to the game.”
Rohit made his Test debut in November 2013 against the West Indies in Kolkata, where he scored a memorable century. Over the years, he evolved into a dependable top-order batsman and a dynamic leader.
He played 67 Test matches, amassing over 4302 runs with 12 centuries, 1 double hundred several match-winning innings, particularly after transitioning into an opener in 2019. His elegant stroke play and calm presence at the crease made him a fan favorite.
As captain, he led India to crucial Test wins, including memorable victories in Australia and strong performances in England and at home. While he bids farewell to red-ball cricket, Rohit confirmed he will continue to play in white-ball formats.
His retirement has stirred an emotional response among fans and former players, many of whom hailed his contribution to Indian Test cricket as legendary. Rohit Sharma’s departure from the longest format is truly the end of an inspiring chapter.
