The T20 World Cup 2024 saw a major upset on Thursday when co-hosts the USA defeated former champions Pakistan in an exciting Super Over at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. The hosts leveled Pakistan’s score of 159, setting up the one-over showdown. Left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar took the center stage leading the USA to their second straight win in the tournament.
Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh criticized Pakistan captain Babar Azam‘s strategy in the Super Over. Pakistan gave away 18 runs as Mohammad Amir bowled several wides while the fielding effort was sloppy. Iftikhar Ahmed and Fakhar Zaman were sent to chase the target. The 2009 T20 World Cup champions could only manage 13 runs for the loss of one wicket, allowing the USA to win the Super Over by 4 runs.
The former T20 World Cup champion warned Pakistan to be wary ahead of their high-stakes clash against India on Sunday in New York. The Men in Blue head into the match fresh off a win against Ireland on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Pakistan faces a must-win scenario, as the USA appear poised to advance to the next round of the T20 World Cup after defeating Canada earlier this week.
Singh took X after USA defeated Pakistan slamming Pakistan’s gameplan, he tweeted
“I don’t understand why didn’t @FakharZamanLive take strike to a lefty seamer – when it is easier for a left hander to hit through the angle that bowler is tryin to create. Nonetheless have to give it #TeamUSA @usacricket for making smart decisions under pressure specially the captain Monank Patel. Now, Pakistan needs a must-win against India & they surely need to bat & field better! With India’s strong start, it’s gonna be hard to beat us!”
