Jasprit Bumrah to be ruled out of Champions Trophy group stage due to injury

Jasprit Bumrah to be ruled out of Champions Trophy group stage due to injury

Team India is facing a potential setback as star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 remains in doubt. With the prestigious tournament just a month away, the premier pacer is currently dealing with back swelling, which has raised concerns over his participation in the crucial league-stage matches.

Bumrah, one of the key figures in India’s bowling attack, may be forced to miss the opening games of the tournament, according to a report from India Today. While scans have ruled out a fracture, the swelling in his back requires a period of rest and rehabilitation. In an effort to speed up his recovery, Bumrah will undergo a week-long rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

The NCA will closely monitor Bumrah’s recovery process, with the hope of having him fit in time for the tournament. After completing his rehab, Bumrah will need to participate in one or two practice matches to assess his fitness and readiness. These practice games will play a crucial role in determining whether he is fit to take part in the Champions Trophy.

Bumrah had been in action throughout India’s recent Test series against Australia, playing all five matches. However, he began experiencing discomfort in his back during the first innings of the final Test, prompting him to leave the field for scans. The results revealed swelling that now requires medical attention and sufficient rest.

If Bumrah is forced to miss the initial matches of the Champions Trophy 2025, it would be a significant blow to India’s chances in the tournament. As one of the most vital bowlers in all formats, Bumrah’s absence could leave a noticeable gap in India’s bowling lineup. His skill and experience are integral to the team’s success, especially in the pressure-packed environment of a major tournament like the Champions Trophy. India will be hoping for his swift recovery and return to full fitness ahead of the competition.
