In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a one-week suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The decision was confirmed by BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla during a media address, where he stated that the move was taken after internal discussions within the board.
Foreign players participating in the tournament have been given the liberty to decide whether they wish to remain in India during the suspension or return to their respective countries. “Itβs up to the foreign players to decide whether they want to stay in India or not,” Shukla said.
He clarified that the decision to suspend the tournament was solely that of the BCCI and was not influenced by external agencies. “It is BCCIβs own decision after discussions within the board,” he affirmed.
Looking ahead, Shukla mentioned that decisions regarding the Asia Cup and other upcoming tours will be made in due course. “Further decisions on the Asia Cup and tour schedules will be announced later,” he said, suggesting that the board is monitoring the situation closely.
When asked about the possibility of shifting the remainder of the IPL to another country, Shukla responded, “The possibility to move out of the country is yet to be decided.”
As the situation unfolds, fans and stakeholders await further announcements from the BCCI regarding the future of the IPL and India’s international cricket commitments.
