Australia faces a significant challenge as captain Pat Cummins is uncertain for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Pat Cummins, who has played in all five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will undergo ankle scans as per the announcement of Australia’s selectors chairman, George Bailey.

Due to his upcoming second child, Cummins has been informed that he won’t be participating in the Sri Lanka tour due to paternity leave. The Champions Trophy, which starts on February 19, may require some level of assurance from him as a result of this situation. Cummins has been dealing with an ankle problem throughout the Test series, according to Bailey, who echoed his comments about potential fitness. ‘Pat is on paternity leave for a while,’ she said when discussing Cummins possible return. He plans to have MRI tests in the next week or so and assess his condition accordingly.

Bailey remained level-headed when asked about Cummins prospects in the Champions Trophy, expressing uncertainty by stating,

“We aren’t entirely sure. We’ll have to wait for the scan results to reveal his condition”.

There are other Australian fast bowlers who have suffered injuries besides Cummins. While Mitchell Starc experienced some discomfort during the fourth Test, he was able to play in Sydney, while Josh Hazlewood was forced to withdraw from the series after suffering a calf injury in the Gabba Test.

Hazlewood was not included in the team for the Sri Lanka tour, but Bailey believes that he will be doing better. He has received positive news about his calf injury and is working hard, according to Bailey.

“The amount of time he has been absent from probably made it too difficult for him to be part of this squad.”

The workloads for the fast bowlers are being evaluated, and unfortunately, he wasn’t prepared enough in time. We are of the opinion that he will be in good shape for the Champions Trophy.

As they prepare for the tournament, the Australian team’s pace trio is optimistic that their fitness will be fully boosted.
