Since India‘s humiliating 209 runs defeat in the WTC Final against Australia, Ravichandran Ashwin has been in the news because of his snub from the WTC Final.
Several experts criticised Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma’s decision to leave R Ashwin out despite the off-spinner being their highest wicket-taker in the 2021-23 WTC cycle with 61 wickets.
In recent events, Ashwin broke his silence on the matter and stated, “I would have loved to play the final against Australia, as I played a part in getting the team to the final. In the 2021 finals, I took four wickets.”
Further, Ashwin made a shocking revelation as the 36-year-old stated that he contemplated taking retirement after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The off-spinner had a scintillating home series against the baggy green as he jointly won the player of the series award for his 25 wickets.
“I came home from Bangladesh and told my wife I might retire after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in February. I was struggling with knee issues and wanted to change my action. After each delivery, I had a pop in my knee, and it actually swelled up.”
“I changed my action to the one I used during my early years. I went to Bangalore, took injections, and slowly the pain faded away.”
Further, Ashwin stated that the player of the series award from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is one of his performances in the last four-five years.
